How does your organization support families?
- Treating child sexual abuse: In Alberta, we have the Be Brave Ranch, is a specialized, trauma-informed evidence-based, treatment centre focused on helping children who have been sexually abused, as well as their families. Our program is for girls and boys from 8-12 years old and girls between the ages of 13 and 16. Designed with significant input from many leading academic and clinical experts who specialize in child sexual abuse (see Our Team), the Be Brave Ranch program will help children overcome the devastating effects of child sexual abuse, and change the trajectory of their lives. With the proper therapeutic interventions, child survivors of sexual abuse can become adults with strong mental health that supports a positive outlook on life and enables them to participate in life and accomplish their goals.
- Prevention of child sexual abuse: Little Warriors developed a workshop called Prevent It! Offered in person and online by Little Warriors, Prevent It! is an evidence-based educational workshop developed in conjunction with researchers at the University of Alberta. Prevent It! educates and empowers adults to take action and help prevent and respond to child sexual abuse. The Prevent It! workshop offers hope to help prevent child sexual abuse. Research has shown that adults who complete it become more supportive of children and begin using more behaviours that are believed to reduce children’s vulnerability to sexual abuse.
What locations do our programs for families operate out of?
The Be Brave Ranch is located in Alberta, but children from across Canada are able to attend this treatment centre. Travel and costs are all covered by private donors.
The Prevent It! workshop is delivered all across Canada, including New Westminster at the New Westminster Family Place.
Is there a key person in New West who our families can connect with? What is the best way for our families to contact your organization?
Yes! They can either visit littlewarriors.ca, call 1.855.922.9010 or email preventIt@littlewarriors.ca
Can you name a couple of ways that your organization works with Family Place?
Family Place has been incredibly gracious in proving free space for Little Warriors to host the Prevent It! workshop that we deliver free to the community. This partnership is very valuable to us as we’ve been able to educate a large handful of adults from New West on how they can help prevent child sexual abuse and how to help protect children.
