At New Westminster Family Place, we believe that strong communities are built through connection, compassion, and shared purpose. During National Volunteer Week, we pause to celebrate and give heartfelt thanks to the incredible volunteers who make our mission possible every single day. From the playroom floor to the boardroom table, their time, talents, and dedication are the heartbeat of everything we do.
90 volunteers have given 1,545 hours of their time this past year
Over the past year, 90 volunteers gave an astounding 1,545 hours of their time to support our free programming for families with young children aged 0–6. These hours translate into more than just numbers—they represent warm welcomes, creative play, supportive conversations, and meaningful impact.
Our volunteers show up in many forms. They help guide little ones through art and sensory activities, offer a listening ear to new parents, and bring energy and compassion to every circle time and play session. Behind the scenes, they lend their skills in administration, communications, and program design. And our volunteer Board of Directors offers invaluable guidance and oversight that ensures we remain a sustainable and responsive organization.
What our volunteers have to say

What truly brings our volunteer community to life is their stories:
“New Westminster Family Place gave me the opportunity to engage with children of different ages, and I always look forward to spending time with them. I’m amazed by how fast and well they learn!”
– Yuan, Volunteer Playroom Assistant
“Volunteering here has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I still remember my first day—I was so nervous. But then one of the kids took my hand and invited me to play. That moment meant the world to me.”
– Shanin, Volunteer Playroom Assistant
“What started as a class requirement turned into something so meaningful that I chose to stay. I’m proud to help create a safe, welcoming space for families in our community.”
– Makena, Volunteer Playroom Assistant
“Family Place has been a great source of creativity for me. I’m happy I get to help the community in some small way and grateful for such positivity and encouragement.”
– Mark, Volunteer Design support
These generous individuals inspire us every day. They are students exploring careers in child development, newcomers looking to give back, parents re-entering the workforce, and community members simply sharing their time and talents. Together, they help New Westminster Family Place thrive.
To our volunteers: Thank you. Your kindness, energy, and generosity make a difference that ripples far beyond our walls. You are the reason Family Place feels like home to so many.
